The museum is housed in a beautiful Victorian-style house built in 1884 by Colonel Eliakim P. Scarr. Colonel Scarr was a prominent businessman and civic leader in Lima. The house was donated to the Allen County Historical Society in 1966.

The museum has three floors. The first floor exhibits Allen County and the city of Lima. The second floor exhibits the Civil War, the Underground Railroad, and local industry. The third floor exhibits local history.

The Allen County Historical Society also has a research library. The library has a collection of books, newspapers, and other materials that relate to the history of Allen County and Lima. The library is open to the public and is an excellent resource for students and researchers.

The Allen County Historical Society and Museum is a great place to learn about the history of Allen County and the city of Lima. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission to the museum is free.
